Save the Boundary Waters Action Fund is proud to endorse Cyle Cramer for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. Cramer brings a clear and strong commitment to permanently protecting one of our nation's most treasured landscapes, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, from the threat of proposed toxic sulfide-ore copper mining in its watershed.
At a time when this iconic wilderness is under increasing threat, Northern Minnesota needs a leader who will prioritize clean water, sustainable jobs, and the long-term health of our outdoor economy. Cramer understands that once this fragile ecosystem is damaged, it can never be restored. He is ready to stand up for the Boundary Waters and for the thousands of Minnesotans in the district who rely on the Wilderness for their livelihoods, recreation, and quality of life.
Incumbent CD8 Representative Pete Stauber has consistently aligned himself with reckless foreign mining interests, ignoring widespread opposition to sulfide-ore copper on the doorstep to the Boundary Waters. Stauber currently seeks to reverse the 20-year copper mining ban on Federal lands in the Rainy River Headwaters, grant unlawful Twin Metals mineral leases, prohibit judicial review of these leases, and grant the company right to renewal of those leases for 70 years. These lawless and unprecedented efforts to fast track copper mining immediately upstream of the beating heart of Minnesota’s outdoor recreation economy represents his commitment not to his constituents, but to a Chilean mining conglomerate. Cyle Cramer will represent the will of the people - nearly 70% of Minnesotans and a majority of voters in CD-08 want the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness permanently protected from this toxic type of mining.
Northern Minnesotans are ready for a change. Cyle Cramer represents that change. This election is a turning point for Northern Minnesota, and our organization is proud to endorse the candidate who will fight to ensure the Boundary Waters are protected for future generations.
